Posting Blinds

Basically, blinds are forced bets in order to enter the game. In general, there are two blind positions after the dealer, Small Blind (SB) and the Big Blind (BB). Small blind is the person sitting in the first position to the left of the dealer.

While in the second position to the left of the dealer is the Big Blind. Normally, the blinds move around the table when the dealer button moves.

Likely, before cards are dealt, the blinds must be posted accordingly.

First Betting Round

Consequently, when the blinds have been finally posted, each player will be dealt four cards face down. These four cards are the player’s private cards or hole cards and should only be seen by the player himself.

In the event that every player has already received their cards, the betting should start. During the first betting round, the player sitting on the left hand of the Big Blind starts the betting. Every player can either “fold”, “raise” or “call”.

Usually, if a player “raises”, the following players must either match the raise or “call”, re-raise or fold their hand, for everyone to be able to impart an equal amount of money to the pot when the first betting round lasts.

The Flop

Normally, after the initial betting round, three cards are dealt from the deck face-up in the middle of the table. Such three cards are known as “the flop”. These are community cards shared by everyone at the table. Basically, after the flop has been initiated by the player to the left of the “button”, the second betting round should begin.

The Turn

Right after the second betting round, a 4th community card is dealt which is generally referred to as “the turn”. Likely, after this “turn” has been dealt, a third betting round must be initiated by the player sitting to the left of the dealer.

The River

The 5th and final community card is known as the “the river”. Normally, when this “river” is dealt, one fourth and last betting round should start. The first player to the left of the dealer is the one who is supposed to start the betting.

Subsequently, if two or more players stay in the pot to showdown, the winning players is the one who is able to make the best poker hand using three community cards and two of the hole cards. Likely, if two players can make the same hand the pot will be split between those two accordingly.
