Playing Stud
When you are playing seven card stud it’s very important to learn how to fold bad hands early. The main reason for this is because it easy gets expensive going all the way in a game like seven card stud. A good advice is to play free poker rolls for starters. The main difference from seven card from regular Texas hold’em is that there is no flop that you share with the other players. Instead you get a total of three cards open and visible to the other players, the other four are dealt face down.
This means that you as a player have a whole lot of cards to keep track of. For example if you are playing with five more players you have a total of twenty cards face up to keep track of, and that’s not including your own cards. Luckily this does not happen that often since it’s rarely that many players stay in the pot until the final card is dealt. But if all the players decide to stay in the pot the whole way you have a very hard task of trying to figure out what all your opponents are sitting with. If you choose to play online poker you can always use the time bank function and get a little more time to think about you’re decision.
Another hard thing about seven card is the fact that you more often than in regular Texas have to make the impression that you have something when you have nothing. Simply said, you have to know how to bluff and more important know when to bluff. If it looks like you have a hand judging from the cards faced up, you also have to bet like you have a monster hand. And since there are so many cards that aren’t visible to your opponents you can easily act like you have something.
The other players can of course use this to their advantage and when there are so many cards that you have to guess what they are your opponent is just as likely to have full house as simple pair. And if you decide to play fixed limit it’s and whole different game to play when many players just keep calling hands down hoping to hit something. Even though it might seem impossible to get some players to fold you have to keep them paying for choosing to follow you all the way.
